ZRA SEIZES ANOTHER 800 CASES OF CIGARETTES

The Zambia Revenue Authority has yet again smoked out more cigarettes by intercepting a consignment of 800 cigarette cases affixed with Zambian Customs excise stamps.

The cigarettes imported from South Africa through the Chirundu One Stop Border Post (OSBP), were declared as being destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) alongside some personal items.

The deliberate use of the transit regime to conceal goods intended for the local market demonstrates a clear intention to evade customs controls and applicable excise taxes.

This act constitutes smuggling by the importer and is in direct contravention of Zambia’s Customs and Excise Laws.

The revenue loss from this activity is K10 million.
