The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General Dingani Banda has said there is a growing commitment among African revenue authorities to leverage technology, modernise tax collection, and boost domestic revenue for sustainable development.
Speaking when he met delegates from Malawi Revenue Authority, Revenue Services Lesotho and the Liberia Revenue Authority who are in Lusaka for a five-day benchmarking visit on digitalization of tax reforms, Mr. Banda said ZRA’s digitalisation journey has been focused on not only improving systems but also understanding the needs of taxpayers.
He noted digital transformation is a journey, and through collaboration, revenue administrations can collectively avoid common pitfalls, accelerate implementation timelines, and maximise the benefits of technology-enabled tax administration.
“We have so much to learn from one another. Just as you are learning from our digital transformation journey, we are equally keen to learn from your experiences and innovations,” he said.
Meanwhile, African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) representative Joyce Ndubai said the visit also draws lessons from countries that have already gone through digital transformation.
She further commended ZRA for its continued support to modernisation efforts across the continent.
The benchmarking visit, which covers ZRA’s digital transformation journey including e-invoicing (Smart Invoice), data analytics and IT architecture, will close on Friday, 17th July, 2026.
