The Solwezi Economic and Financial Crimes Court (EFCC) has convicted OSWARD MIYOBA for the offence of Smuggling contrary to the Customs and Excise Act. The convict was ordered to pay the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) a total amount of K320,851.
Brief facts are that OSWARD MIYOBA, on dates unknown but between the 1st January 2022 and 18th July 2023 in Solwezi, North-Western Province, jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown, did smuggle into Zambia a motor vehicle with, thereby defrauding the Government of the Republic of Zambia of revenue amounting to K75,100 in duties and taxes.
When the matter came up on 13th October, 2025 for plea and possible trial before Hon Kasongamulilo, the accused evoked the provision of the Plea Negotiations and Agreements Act No. 20 of 2010. The Court accepted the application and ordered the Convict to pay ZRA K320,851. The amount is a total of evaded taxes and penalties amounting to K270,851 and the cost incurred in prosecuting the matter amounting to K50,000. Further, a fine of K5,000 was paid to the Court.
