The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has donated 2200 bed sheets and 1400 blankets, all valued at K 650, 000 to the University Teaching Hospitals (UTHs).
Speaking during the donation, ZRA Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda said the Authority appreciates the challenges that the UTHs face in a quest to provide excellent medical services to clients.
“We are all aware that the institution has challenges to meet all its financial and material obligations. This realization makes noble institutions like the Zambia Revenue Authority to come in and help where possible”, Mr. Chanda said.
Mr. Chanda said this is the biggest Corporate Social Investment donation ZRA has made after the donation of wheelchairs in October 2019 worth K155, 000 together with plastic chairs worth K140, 000.
“The donations are undertaken because of our conviction that we are part of the community and must participate in community work especially helping the vulnerable in our communities throughout the country”, he added.
The Commissioner General said ZRA cannot talk about taxpayers if their health is not guaranteed because a healthy citizenry is a productive citizenry and that is where tax comes from.
Meanwhile, UTH Director of Clinical Care and Diagnostics Services Alex Makupe thanked ZRA for the gesture adding that it has come at a time when the hospitals are overwhelmed with pressure as a result of COVID-19.
Dr. Makupe said the institution has needed more linen due to increased numbers of patients who sometimes end up being referred to other hospitals such as Levy Mwanawasa Hospital.
