ZRA DONATES SEIZED COOKING OIL TO CHARITABLE ORGANISATIONS

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has donated 1,200 units of 20-litre cooking oil to 12 charitable organisations comprising six hospitals, five orphanages and Disaster Management & Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

The consignment was seized by ZRA, declared fit for human consumption by the Lusaka City Council Public Health Unit, and gazetted under Gazette Number 545 of 2026, in line with Section 204 of the Customs and Excise Act, Chapter 322 of the Laws of Zambia.

Handing over the cooking oil, ZRA Acting Director – Executive Support, Laban Simbeye, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner General Dingani Banda, said the donation carried a strong message to those engaged in smuggling.

“Smuggling doesn’t pay. They lose the goods, including the vessels used in the act,” Mr. Simbeye said.

He further appealed to the recipient institutions to serve as tax ambassadors in their communities, urging them to support ZRA’s mandate of mobilising resources for national development.

The 12 recipients include the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), Chilenje, Chipata, Matero, Chawama, and Kanyama Level I Hospitals, Hope of Happiness for Children with Disability, Cheshire Homes of Chawama, Matthew 25 also known as Home of David and Faith, Providence Home of Children with Disability, Mother Theresa, and the Disaster Management & Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, UTH representative Laura Gondwe commended ZRA for demonstrating corporate social responsibility beyond its core mandate.

She added, the cooking oil would go a long way in supporting the preparation of meals for patients, vulnerable children and the communities served by the recipient institutions.
