ZRA RECRUITS ADDITIONAL EXPERT INVESTIGATORS TO FIGHT CORRUPTION

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has scaled up its integrity initiatives by hiring additional expert investigators. The move is aimed at improving building capacity, transparency, accountability, and ethical practices in revenue management.

The new officers will act as internal watchdogs, thoroughly investigating misconduct, enforcing the ZRA’s Code of Conduct, and supporting anti-corruption measures. The deployment of the seven experienced investigators marks a key milestone in ZRA’s strategic efforts to uphold its core values, public trust, and safeguard the country’s revenue.

“Your work is not fashionable but it is vital. You will investigate misconduct and corruption to safeguard our institution’s integrity, credibility, and trust. We expect professionalism, discretion, and courage from all of you. Integrity is our core value at ZRA. Therefore, you will be held to high ethical standards but will receive support in performing your duties fairly. Stand for the truth. Serve with honour and uphold justice,” ZRA Commissioner General Dingani Banda said when welcoming the new officers.

The new officers will probe suspected corruption and misconduct, monitor high-risk areas, and collaborate with external agencies, such as the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Drug Enforcement Commission, and the Zambia Police, to support the prosecution of internal offenders.

“To deliver on our mandate, we must not only expand the tax base and enhance administrative efficiency but also close all revenue leakages. In sealing the revenue leakages, this is where you come in. We need to rebuild Internal Affairs Unit so that you function effectively as a tool for sealing revenue leakages. You have my full support in your performance of your duties,” Mr. Banda said.

In line with its core value of integrity, ZRA recognises that combating corruption requires public support. To make meaningful progress, it is vital for the public to collaborate with ZRA in exposing and fighting corruption. Community involvement is essential in identifying and addressing corrupt practices that hinder service delivery and impede national development by undermining revenue collection through unethical means.

By promoting transparency and civic participation, ZRA aims to foster a collaborative environment where citizens and institutions work together to uphold integrity and accountability in tax administration, leading to a fairer and more prosperous society.

ZRA urges all members of the public, including taxpayers and stakeholders, to promote integrity by reporting any suspected corruption or unethical behaviour encountered when dealing with the Authority. By working together, we can help build a transparent and accountable revenue system dedicated to serving all Zambians. Every report contributes to creating a fairer tax system and fighting corruption, ultimately benefiting the entire country.
