ZRA LAUNCHES RESEARCH DATA LAB

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has launched a Secure Research Data lab as a tool that will help increase domestic resource mobilisation (DRM), in line with the national development agenda.

The lab will provide researchers access to quality-assured, anonymised tax adminstrative data in a secure, access controlled environment.

It will also make research data available to researchers so as to inform tax policy and administration in the country and beyond.

ZRA Commissioner General Dingani Banda has officially launched the Data Lab, which he describes as a strategic investment in the Authority’s capacity to make smarter, evidence-based tax policy decisions.

He said Research data lab will improve the quality of public debate on tax matters, anchored on empirical evidence.

Establishment of the Lab in Zambia has been supported by the United Nations University – World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER)UNU-WIDER

Research Fellow at UNU -WIDER Amina Ebrahim said the establishment of the ZRA Research lab lays the foundation for stronger institutional collaboration and assured continued support towards Zambia’s inclusive growth and resilient public financial management system.

The ZRA Research Data Lab becomes the third of its kind on the African continent, after the data labs in South African and Uganda.
