ZRA SEIZES 300 CASES OF SMUGGLED KONYAGI BEER

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has impounded a light containerised truck that was carrying 300 cases of Konyagi beer, concealed under sacks of kapenta, potatoes and clothes.

The truck with registration number BLC 3320, and currently parked at ZRA Makeni Yard, was intercepted in Kapiri Mposhi on Saturday 19th July, 2025 and escorted to Lusaka for further investigation.

The investigation has since revealed that this was a pure case of concealment, a form of smuggling. The beer and the truck have since been seized.

Had the truck not been intercepted, the government would have lost K418,135.43 in tax revenue.

ZRA Senior Corporate Affairs Officer Robert Zawe said the items declared for transportation included Kapeta, potatoes and motor vehicle rims among other items, but the transporter failed to declare the Konyagi beer.

“This is a pure case of concealment which is another form of smuggling and therefore we are going ahead to seize the beer as well as the vessel used. Our mobile enforcement teams are on high alert to curtail smuggling around the country,” he said.

To avoid seizure of transportation vessels and other related penalties, the Zambia Revenue Authority is calling on transporters to be alert and ensure that goods they are transporting are declared correctly.
