ZRA SHARES THE CHRISTMAS CHEER

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has today Friday 23rd December, 2022 made donations to 3 institutions that have an impact of various people in our society. The Christmas donation to the three institutions in Lusaka is worth One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Kwacha (K150,000.00).

The Christmas donation was made to Zambia Correctional Services (ZCS), University Teaching Hospital (UTH) School for Children’s with Special Needs and Merciful Beginnings Orphanage with each institution receiving assorted worth Fifty Thousand Kwacha (K50, 000.00).

Speaking at the handover event held at the UTH School for Children’s with Special Needs, ZRA Commissioner General Dingani Banda said the Authority was glad to be giving out to the less privileged in society, in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility.

He added that the gesture showed that the Authority has a human face besides the task of collecting tax.

‘I wish to inform you that the donated items were purchased through our Corporate Social Responsibility budget. ZRA is part of the community, hence our decision to reach to these Institutions in this manner. We will continue to work with charitable institutions in our community so as to contribute to improving the welfare of the disadvantaged groups in our society,” he said.

He also encouraged others to spread the Christmas cheer.  

The donated items included: mattresses, sugar, mealie meal, cooking oil, flour, blankets, clothes, books, cups and various cleaning detergents among many others.

And speaking after receiving the donated items, Zambia Correctional Services Deputy Commissioner Namata Mayumbelo thanked the Authority for reaching out to the needs of the inmates at this particular time of the year.

She added that the inmates were grateful with the Authority’s gesture and that it would touch them in a special way.

And UTH School for Children’s with Special Needs Deputy Headteacher Mrs. Janet Pandawe said the School was happy to be part of the recipients as they were in dire need of help.

 She thanked the Authority for coming forward to help her institution.

Meanwhile, Merciful Beginnings Orphanage representative Musukwala Sakala said the orphanage had a wide range of challenges and that the Authority’s donation had come at the right time as the children would celebrate the festive season with some comfort.

The Commissioner General has promised a robust Corporate Social Responsibility programme for the year 2023 that will involve all ZRA stations countrywide.  ​
